Cupcake Assault Leads to Domestic Battery Charges

Dawn Montesdeoca was arrested and charged with domestic battery after allegedly pelting her husband with cupcakes. For the cupcake assault, the 60-year-old woman could face jail time.

On Saturday, Montesdeoca got into an argument with her 56-year-old husband and the fight quickly escalated into a food fight, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. However, the husband did not find the incident amusing and called the cops.

When the police arrived, the husband's head and shirt were smeared with cupcake icing. He told the cops that he was in fear of his wife and wanted her arrested, reports the Sun-Times.

In a "very aggressive tone," Montesdeoca admitted to pelting her husband with the cupcakes, said the cops.

Now, the woman will have to deal with criminal domestic battery charges. If Montesdeoca is convicted, she could face misdemeanor charges and jail time. But if this is her first offense, jail time is unlikely.

While a cupcake assault may seem like a strange form of domestic violence, there really is no one true form of abuse. In fact, domestic abuse can include emotional, economic, sexual, and physical abuse, as well as any other harmful conduct.

To stop domestic violence, victims can call the police for immediate threats of harm like Dawn Montesdeoca's husband did. In addition, victims can seek a temporary restraining order to keep the abuser away. With a restraining order, the abuser can be jailed if they later violate the order, and they can also see increased penalties if they commit crimes like domestic battery in violation of the order.
