Sometimes marriages just don't work out. But it's really hard to remain neutral about recent news that former football star and current "Today" show correspondent Tiki Barber has left his pregnant wife for a young intern, as reported by the New York Post.
Did I happen to mention that current wife Ginny Barber is 8-months pregnant, with twins? They also have two other children together, boys aged six and seven.
The article dishes out all the salacious details about Tiki Barber's affair with former NBC intern Traci Lynn Johnson, described as a "model-thin bombshell" who was only 12 years old when he married wife Ginny Barber 11 years ago.
Ginny Barber's New York lawyer no doubt will help her secure a sizeable alimony. Any divorce attorneys in Chicago care to guess just how much of Tiki Barber's sizeable fortune the jilted mother can expect?
Ginny Barber reportedly knew about the affair late in 2009, after the former New York Giants running back moved out of their home.
But the "ick" factor only gets worse when you consider comments Tiki Barber made about his philandering father, for whom he expressed complete disdain:
"Not only did he abandon her, I felt like he abandoned us for a lot of our lives. I have a hard time forgiving that."
Apparently the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, as they say. And even though the marriage is ending, he'll have to figure out how to be a good father; if not exactly a role model.
But let's hear about it from the man himself. Tiki Barber released a statement to the press about the divorce, which at least makes it sound less like an abandonment and more like a mutual decision:
"This decision was a painful one, but we are moving forward amicably and will continue to work together to raise our children with the love and dedication they have always known."
Wow.
